Individual Block instructions


Section 1 Double Monkey Wrench
(Make one 6" block)
(A) Black
Cut 4 rectangles 1 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Cut 2 squares 2 7/8" then cut once diagonally

(D)Yellow
Cut 4 rectangles 1 1/2" x 2 1/2"

(E) Purple
Cut 2 squares 2 7/8", then cut once diagonally
Cut 1 square 2 1/2"

Assembly & Block Construction of the Double Monkey Wrench



1. Sew one Purple (E) half square triangle to one Black (A) half square triangle. See diagram 1. Label Unit 1.
2. Repeat step 1 three (3) more times for a total of 4 unit 1's.
3. Sew one Yellow (D) and one Black (A) rectangle together. See diagram 2. Label Unit 2.
4. Repeat three (3) more times for a total of 4 unit 2's.
5. Measurement check each block should measure 2 1/2".


Referring to the assembly diagram do the following:
Lay the Units out into rows.
Sew rows together.
Sew each row together to complete your block.
Press and your block is complete!
Measurement check Block should measure 6 1/2


Assembly & Block Construction of the Half Square Triangle Filler Block

Section 1 Half Square Triangle Filler Block
(Make two 3" blocks)
(A) Black
Cut 1 square 3 7/8", cut once diagonally


(C) Red
Cut 1 square 3 7/8", cut once diagonally



1. With RST sew one Red ( C) and one Black (A) HST together. See diagram 1 for placement.
2. Repeat step 1 one more time for a total of 2 units. Press and set aside.


Section 1 Mississippi Star

(Make one 12" block)
(A) Black
Cut 4 square 4 1/2

(B) Green
Cut 4 squares 2 7/8"

(D)Yellow
Cut 4 square 2 7/8
Cut 1 square 4 1/2"

(F) Blue
Cut 4 squares 4 1/2"


Assembly & Block Construction of the Mississippi Star

1. With RST lay (1) one (B) Green 2 7/8" square on the upper right (UR) corner of (1) one (F) Blue square. See diagram 1 for placement.

2. On the back of the Green square draw a line from the UL to the LR corner. Stitch on this line. Press. (If you want to want to trim the extra off behind the back of the Blue triangle the choice is up to you.)

3. With RST lay (1) one (D) Yellow 2 7/8" square on the lower left (LL) corner of the Blue square sewn in steps 1 and 2. See diagram 2 for placement.

4. On the back of the Yellow square draw a line from the UL to the LR corner. Stitch on this line. Press.

5. Referring to Diagram 3 sew the rows together as shown.


Assembly & Block Construction of the Friendship Star


Section 1 Friendship Star
(Make one 6" block)
(A) Black
Cut 4 square 2 1/2


(C) Red
Cut 2 squares 2 7/8", cut once diagonally


(D) Yellow
Cut 2 squares 2 7/8", cut once diagonally
Cut 1 square 2 1/2"



1. Match and sew the half square triangles on the bias edge, one (1) Red (C) triangle to one (1) Yellow (D) triangle. Repeat 3 more times for a total of 4.

2. Refer to block construction diagram to sew your Friendship Star together.

3. Measurement check block should measure 6 1/2" square.




Section 1 Flower Block
(Make one 6" block)
(A) Black
Cut 1 rectangle 3 1/2 x 2"
Cut 5 squares 2"


(B) Green
Cut 1 rectangle 5" x 2"
Cut 1 rectangle 6 1/2" x 2"


(D)Yellow
Cut 1 square 2"


(C) Red
Cut 1 rectangle 3 1/2" x 2"
Cut 1 rectangle 5" x 2" 


Assembly & Block Construction of the Flower Block



1. Sew (1) one (A) Black 2" square to (1) one (D) Yellow 2" square. See diagram 1 for placement.

2. Sew (1) one (A) Black 3 1/2" x 2" rectangle to the top of the unit sewn in Step 1. See diagram 2 for placement.

3. With RST lay (1) one (A) Black 2" square on the left hand side of (1) one (C) Red 3 1/2" x 2" rectangle. On the back of the (A) Black square draw a line from the UL to the LR corner. Stitch on this line. Press. (If you want to want to trim the extra off behind the back of the Black triangle the choice is up to you.) See diagram 3 for placement.

4. Sew unit sewn in Step 3 to the unit from Step 2. See diagram 4 for placement.

5. With RST lay (1) one (A) Black 2" square on the left (top looking at the diagram) hand side of (1) one (C) Red 5" x 2" rectangle. On the back of the (A) Black square draw a line from the UL to the LR corner. Stitch on this line. Press. (If you want to want to trim the extra off behind the back of the Black triangle the choice is up to you.) See diagram 5 for placement.

6. Sew unit sewn in Step 5 to the unit from Step 4. See diagram 6 for placement.

7. With RST lay (1) one (A) Black 2" square on the left hand side of (1) one (B) Green 5" x 2" rectangle. On the back of the (A) Black square draw a line from the UL to the LR corner. Stitch on this line. Press. (If you want to want to trim the extra off behind the back of the Black triangle the choice is up to you.) See diagram 7 for placement.

8. Sew unit sewn in Step 6 to the unit from Step 7. See diagram 8 for placement.

9. With RST lay (1) one (A) Black 2" square on the left (top looking at the diagram) hand side of (1) one (B) Green 6 1/2" x 2" rectangle. On the back of the (A) Black square draw a line from the UL to the LR corner. Stitch on this line. Press. (If you want to want to trim the extra off behind the back of the Black triangle the choice is up to you.) See diagram 9 for placement.

10. Sew unit sewn in Step 8 to the unit from Step 9. See diagram 10 for placement.

11. Press and set aside.


Assembly for Section 1


Assembly of this month's blocks

Finished block size is 18" x 24"
(B) Green
Cut 2 squares 3 1/2"
Cut 1 rectangle 3 1/2" x 6 1/2"


(F) Blue
Cut 1 rectangle 3 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Referring to the Block Construction Diagram above and upper left-hand corner of the color rendering of the quilt, sew your blocks together as follows:

1. Sew one (1) HST filler block to one (1) Green (B) 3 1/2" square.

2. Repeat one (1) more time for a total of 2 units.

3. Sew units just sewn in Step 1 to the left and right hand sides of the Double Monkey Wrench block.

4. Sew unit just sewn to the Mississippi Star block. Press and set aside.

5. Sew one (1) Green (B) 3 1/2' x 6 1/2" rectangle to the top of the Friendship Star.

6. To the bottom of the Friendship star sew one (1) Blue (F) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" rectangle.

7. Sew the Flower Block to the bottom of the unit just sewn in step 6.

8. Sew the unit sewn in Step 4 and Step 6 together.

9. Press and your block is complete.

10. Check your measurement. This block should measure 18 1/2" x 18 1/2".
